The programme this year focuses on Advertising in Early Modern Japan. We will be reading, transcribing, and translating a wide range of sources in wabun and sōrōbun that allow us to delve into product placements, commercials, advertising pitches, early modern branded products, and much more. We will continue our collaboration with AI-powered transcription platform Minna de honkoku and experiment with other types of OCR to discover what can assist us in reading complex materials but also what only we, as scholars, can bring to the study of books in their original format. The programme features also the interactive workshop with block cutter Saeko Nagai and printer Nobuto Ogawa (Sekioka Woodblock Studio, Tokyo).
