Venturing into the world of mad poetry

– Selected passages from kyōka manual 狂歌初心抄 (1790), published by Tsutajū. Original at National Diet Library.
– Selected poems from 新美人合自筆鏡 (1784). Original at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
– Kyōka composed by Tsuta Karamaru 蔦唐丸 from 狂月坊 (1789; original at National Diet Library), 寿詞石腸児 (1796; original at National Diet Library), and a handwritten poem from catalogue exhibition Suntory Museum 2010.

In this workshop you will learn about the history of kyōka poetry and about its key compositional features by reading poems included in Tsutajū’s 画本虫撰 (1787). In the afternoon you will have fun composing your own kyōka poems.
