Japanese Early Modern Palaeography

We are delighted to announce a collaboration with rakugo master Tatekawa Shinoharu
as part of the Eighth Summer School in Early Modern Japanese Palaeography at the University of Cambridge.

Master Shinoharu will perform twice. Both performances will run as a Zoom meeting and everyone is welcome (registration is required). The first performance focuses around two koten rakugo based on early modern materials that are read and transcribed during the first week of the summer school. The second performance is an original creation of Master Shinoharu, two pieces of shinsaku rakugo based on early modern materials that make fun of quack doctors, starting from the seventeenth-century Chikusai. All performances will be in Japanese without subtitles.
